In the paddock and on the track, at circuits across England, this photo essay looks beyond the racing to the people and stories that make it possible.

Friends, family, sponsors and a small army of supporters help riders get to the grid. Race officials and the Orange Army keep watch over the circuit.

Then the lights go out.

For those few laps, it’s down to the rider: their skill, courage, determination, and sometimes a little luck.

Riders may cross the finish line alone, but nobody races alone.
